Initially, Heather Marie Vernon and I co-founded a reading group for the collaborative work of Gilles Deleuze & Felix Guattari which sought to sustain a challenging dialogue in our community and incite experimentation across specializations. Beginning with A Thousand Plateaus, our aim was a crash-course in practical philosophy for those interested in living creatively. At mobile meeting-places with a diverse influx of participants we performed the readings, shared notes, created works in response, connected concepts to art history and contemporary practices, and explored the affective wilderness. After months of activity we decided to collaborate on a group exhibition and performance event at i^3 hypermedia studios. desiring^machines included a variety of elements - installation, sculpture, drawing, live sound-collaging, audience-collaboration art-making, a sunrise performance Skyped from Norway, a pre-screening of the video short S T R E T C H, multimedia performances, kinesthetic poetry, and improvised peripatetic lecture, all and more webcast live. Participants included Kevin Gallagher, Snorre Sjønøst Henriksen, Michael Karouzos, Joel Kuennen, Zach Parsons, Katrina Therese Schaag, Heather Marie Vernon, Sarah Weis & Arturo.
